Placing Your Dental Implants

In our previous blog, we looked at how we planned the placement of one or more dental implants to address your tooth loss. In today’s blog, your Overland Park, KS, dentist talks about the next step. We’re going to discuss how we insert your dental implants and attach a custom restoration or prosthetic.

Inserting Your New Posts

Using the digital images we’ve taken of your smile, we will plan the best position and angle to insert your new posts. We then guide them into place with digital surgical guides. Don’t worry, we also provide local anesthetic and even dental sedation to ensure you’re relaxed and comfortable during this process. Since they’re made from biocompatible titanium, they bond with the jawbone like natural roots would. This means there is a stable and durable base on which to attach a restoration or prosthetic, and that your new tooth could potentially last for decades to come, or even a lifetime.

Attaching Your Abutments

Once the placement area heals, we will connect an abutment to the post or posts. The abutment is a device that extends above the gum line, providing structure to attach your restoration or prosthetic too.

Dental Crowns

For an individual missing tooth, our team could use a dental crown. Custom-made for balanced bite and a lifelike appearance, these are connected to the abutment and act as a new bite surface that looks natural too.

Prosthetics

Our team can also provide solutions for more advanced cases of tooth loss. Instead of one post, we insert multiple in the jaw and then attach abutments before connecting a custom bridge, or even a full or partial set of dentures. In some cases, this can be done in the same visit. These will be fixed in place so they never slip when you eat or speak, and they last far longer than traditional or removable dental prosthetics, so you can enjoy replacements that look and function like natural teeth.

If you have any questions about how we address missing teeth, or about the benefits of implant technology, then contact our team today to learn more. There is still time to see us to get treatment started before the year comes to a close, so you can also use your remaining 2022 dental insurance benefits before they expire at the end of the year. Let’s greet 2023 with a full and stunning smile, talk to our team right away.
